2023 Award Recipient

 

 

Please join us in congratulating Julie Faieta, PhD, MOT, OTR/L, the recipient of the 2023 Women in Neurodegenerative Disease Rehabilitation Science Award. This award was established in 2018 to acknowledge world-class rehabilitation research conducted by a female scientist in the rehabilitation research field of multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s, dementia, Alzheimer’s or related neurodegenerative disease. It will be presented to Dr. Goldman during the ACRM 2023 Annual Conference.

ABOUT JULIE FAIETA 

I am a rehabilitation science researcher and a licensed clinical occupational therapist. At present, my primary area of research is in the development and evaluation of assistive and pervasive technology-based interventions to address health span and quality of life in neurodegenerative and caregiver populations. With a specific interest in Alzheimer’s disease and technology mediated disease management, I am working to develop interventions that can be effectively implemented with those at risk of disease development, and across each stage of the disease progression. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I had the opportunity to gain targeted training in knowledge translation approaches through Knowledge Translation Canada’s Summer institute. The skills and approaches gained through this training have proven particularly useful in technology transfer efforts. Throughout my training and initial time at University of Pittsburgh, I have been able to develop a diverse network of collaborators that represent both clinical and engineering field expertise. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have also maintained active involvement in the American Congress of Rehabilitative Medicine’s Neurodegenerative Networking Group as the chair of the Alzheimer’s Disease Task Force and as the Social Media Officer, and with the Complementary Integrative Rehabilitative Medicine Networking Group as chair elect. I also currently sit on the board for the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America and serve as the Student Scientific Paper Competition chair.
