Exergaming for Older Adults with Osteoarthritis: From Gaming to Training

With guest speaker, Donald G. Manlapaz, PhD, PTRP

This webinar is very timely as exercise gaming is a rising trend in geriatric rehabilitation. It will be influential to the research works that are focusing on innovative rehabilitation techniques to improve quality of patient care among older adults with osteoarthritis.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  2. Differentiate the use of virtual and augmented reality in rehabilitation
  3. Explain the use of exergaming, highlighting its usage in older adults
  4. Recognize the novel strategies and technologies that can be incorporated in the enhancement of rehabilitation program for individuals with knee osteoarthritis

 

ABOUT DONALD MANLAPAZ

Dr. Donald G. Manlapaz finished his undergraduate and master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, and Doctor of Philosophy in Physiotherapy from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He is the current Programme Chair of the Physical Therapy Department of the University of Santo Tomas. He is also the former Vice President, Philippine Physical Therapy Association (2010-2012) and a lifetime member, Philippine Physical Therapy Association (2007-present). He is a researcher of the Center for Health Research and Movement Science and the Associate Editor of the Philippine Journal of Allied Health Sciences. He published and presented his research papers in the field of Osteoarthritis, Exergaming, and Geriatrics. Currently, he is the recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Professional of the year in Physical Therapy given by the Professional Regulation Commission in the Philippines.
