Editor-in-Chief Biography

 

Jeffrey BasfordJeffrey R. Basford, MD, PhD, has a diverse background that includes a PhD in Experimental Physics, teaching in the Middle East, service as an Army officer, and a period of scientific consulting which culminated in completing Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency training in 1980. Doctor Basford is a Professor in PM&R in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic where has been a member since 1982.

Dr. Basford’s rehabilitation background includes a deep understanding of the clinical aspects of rehabilitation in addition to research activities which have emphasized, neurological rehabilitation, the physical agents, and, more recently, cancer rehabilitation and the maintenance of function. His additional qualifications include involvement in both academic and private sector research and development; extensive experience in the design of clinical trials; a 10+ year role as his Department’s Research Director; and recently completed roles as Editor in Chief of the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Director of Mayo’s recently completed long running Rehabilitation Research Training Program.

Dr. Basford has been a member and Chair of the NCMRR Function, Integration and Rehabilitation Sciences (FIRS) Subcommittee; sits on multiple editorial boards; is a fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (FACRM); and is a corresponding member of the Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine.
