CANCER REHAB UPDATE

CHAIRS UPDATE

Dear Colleagues,

This summer many of our colleagues in the ACRM Cancer Rehabilitation Networking Group (CRNG) participated in a major initiative to examine the state of the science led by the Rehabilitation Medicine Department (RMD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) together with the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

A panel of subject matter experts met beginning in September 2014 and then hosted a conference on June 8th and 9th at the NIH that was open to clinicians, researchers, academicians, stakeholders and others involved in cancer rehabilitation and/or survivorship care. The conference highlighted many opportunities for the CRNG to advance cancer rehabilitation research and clinical care, and we’ll be working with our members on “next steps.”

We are excited to share that for the second year in a row, there will be a continuous track of cancer rehabilitation educational content at the ACRM 92nd Annual Conference this fall. We are also pleased to have three new awards for the Best Scientific Poster in Cancer Rehab, New Investigator Poster Award in Cancer Rehab, and Excellence in Cancer Rehab.

We are also pleased to let you know that the CRNG now has four task forces that are working hard on some new initiatives.

Last, but not least, we are committed to providing educational opportunities and mentorship for the next generation of cancer rehabilitation professionals. As part of this, we are inviting residents and others to serve on a CRNG task force. Below there is more information about this opportunity.

Whether you are in training or not, we’d love to hear from you and learn how to better support your work in cancer rehabilitation! Please contact us and tell us what you are thinking, whether you’d like to become more involved with the CRNG and how we can help you to advance cancer rehabilitation care.

With Warm Regards,
Julie Silver, MD
