Brain Injury ISIG TASK FORCE: Cognitive Rehabilitation

Co-chair video

Our group is perhaps best known for our series of four published systematic reviews on the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation for persons with TBI and stroke, which were led by Dr. Keith Cicerone and published between 2000 – 2019. We are proud of the fact that these four papers are amongst the most heavily cited in the brain rehabilitation literature.

“Hello. My name is Tom Bergquist, and I serve as the co-chair for the Cognitive Rehabilitation Task Force, along with my colleagues, Drs. Yelena Goldin and Amy Rosenbaum.

Our task force has been around for several decades.

The mission of our task force is to advance the scientific knowledge and cognitive rehabilitation and to develop and disseminate guidelines for clinical practice and cognitive rehabilitation based on scientific principles and knowledge as well as to advocate for appropriate cognitive rehab interventions for individuals with cognitive deficits due to acquired brain injury.

Our group is perhaps best known for our series of four published systematic reviews on the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation for persons with TBI and stroke, which were led by Dr. Keith Cicerone and published between 2000 and 2019. We are proud of the fact that these four papers are amongst the most heavily cited in the brain rehabilitation literature.

These reviews have served as a foundation for development of a training manual and textbook, the second edition of which was published just last year, as well as an accompanying cognitive rehabilitation workshop which has been conducted worldwide.

We currently have several subgroups working on projects, including updating our previous four systematic reviews and separate systematic reviews of computerized cognitive rehabilitation literature and the literature supporting cognitive rehabilitation in brain injury conditions other than TBI and stroke.

In addition, a group is developing a care partner toolkit for cognitive rehabilitation.

There are opportunities to be part of several of these projects.

If you are interested, please join us in this task force.

We welcome you to please join our task force meeting — the first Monday each month — and at the ACRM Annual Conference in Atlanta this fall where we’ll be celebrating ACRM’s hundredth anniversary.

This will be a great opportunity to meet our task force members and find out even more about how you can become involved. Thank you.”
