Co-chair video

Our Task Force is comprised of energetic and bright members and we’re always looking for more to join us in developing projects and products to help advance scientific knowledge about the impact of a brain injury on minority populations.

Hi, my name is Patricia Garcia and I co-chair the Culture & Diversity in TBI Task Force, along with my colleague Dr. Devan Parrott.

The mission of our task force is to develop projects and products that help advance scientific knowledge about the impact of a brain injury on minority populations.

Our task force was conceived in 2021, and since then it has continued to attract new members who are quite passionate and committed to mitigating healthcare disparities in brain injury rehabilitation. As a task force, we strive to support interdisciplinary collaborations and together improve rehabilitation outcomes for minority groups.

We are currently working on a ‘scope and review’ focused on reporting about the inclusion and retention of minority individuals in brain injury clinical trials. This project is in collaboration with members of the ACRM BI-ISIG Cognitive Rehabilitation Task Force.

Additionally, our task force was recently awarded funding from the ACRM BI-ISIG for a second project, looking to generate recommendations for having diverse samples in brain injury research.

Our task force thrives because of its energetic and bright members and is always looking to grow some more.

You are welcome to contact me directly if you had an interest in joining any of the existing projects.

Also, please join our task force meeting at the annual conference in Atlanta. We very much look forward to seeing you.
