ACRM Champions Accessibility Initiatives at Annual Conference
Reston, VA — The American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) is proud to announce its unprecedented commitment to accessibility at this year’s ACRM Annual Fall Conference, taking place at the Hilton Anatole Dallas. In a groundbreaking effort, ACRM is implementing comprehensive measures to ensure the event is highly user-friendly and an inclusive experience for all attendees, particularly those with accessibility needs.
Recognizing that accessibility is a journey, not a destination, the ACRM Program Committee established an Accessibility Subcommittee. Chaired by Megan Mitchell, PhD, and John-Ross Rizzo, MD, MSCI, FACRM this group identified several initiatives and resources for investigation and actions with these focus areas:
- Navigation
- ACRM conference program
- Conference venue
- Hotel facilities
- City of Dallas
- Support
- Equipment
- Personnel to support accessibility on-site
- Presentations: Written and Oral
- The accessibility of conference sessions and posters for attendees and presenters.
“We are dedicated to making this year’s conference an inclusive, accessible, and enriching experience for everyone,” said Megan Mitchell, PhD; longtime ACRM leader, Accessibility Subcommittee Chair and Program Committee member. “By prioritizing accessibility, we are not only setting a new standard for our events but also fostering a community in which every individual feels valued and empowered.”

“As someone who has personally experienced loss of vision, inclusive design is near and dear to my heart, and all my scholastic efforts reflect that,” says John-Ross Rizzo, MD, MSCI, FACRM; Subcommittee Co-Chair, Associate Professor, NYU Grossman School of Medicine. “Our goal is to create a seamless and welcoming experience for everyone.”
