ACRM is pleased to honor Shannon Miles, MPhD with the 2023 Mitchell Rosenthal Mid-Career Award in recognition of her leadership and contributions to the field of brain injury rehabilitation research.
ABOUT SHANNON MILES
Dr. Miles is a clinical psychologist at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. Her research and clinical work focus on the interplay between mental and physical health after polytrauma (i.e. injury to more than one organ system). She assists Veterans and Service Members in their recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI). She specializes in the treatment and study of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and challenging comorbidities, such as emotion dysregulation and aggression. She has been principal investigator (PI) or Site-PI on 5 Veterans Affairs and 1 Department of Defense grants. Her research has resulted in 40 publications. She has been a member of American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine since 2018 and has co-chaired the Brain Injury-Focus on Behavioral Health Task Force since 2020. Her mentees have won rehabilitation awards including Ms. Becky Gius, MA who won the Brain Injury ISIG David Strauss Early Career Best Poster at ACRM in 2021 and Dr. Elizabeth Gavin who won the Military / Veterans Networking Group Best Poster Award at ACRM in 2019.
