Gold Key Award 2018
CONGRATULATIONS TO 2018 AWARD RECIPIENT
The ACRM Awards Committee and Board of Governors are proud to honor Harvey S. Levin, PhD, FACSM, with the ACRM Gold Key Award for his lifetime achievements. It is the highest honor awarded by ACRM.
Dr. Levin is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Baylor College of Medicine and a Research Scientist at the Michael E. De Bakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Houston. He is the recipient of the Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award, the Jennett-Plum Award for Research on Traumatic Brain injury, and the Distinguished Career Award by the International Neuropsychological Society. He has studied TBI in children and adults, blast related TBI in Veterans, and conducted clinical trials. Dr. Levin is a section editor of the Journal of Neurotrauma.
His contributions to science include:
- Multimodal Brain Imaging After Mild TBI in Veterans and Civilians – Dr. Levin’s group was one of the first to analyze the neurobehavioral effects of mTBI in relation to various modalities of brain imaging.
- Long Term Effects of TBI in Civilian and Military Populations – Dr. Levin contributed to characterizing the long term effects of TBI and repetitive mild TBI and the relation to neurodegeneration. This work has encompassed the long term outcome of a single moderate to severe TBI and repetitive concussion associated with repetitive subconcussive head impacts.
- Single Site and Multisite Clinical Trials Using Neuropsychological Outcome Measures – Dr. Levin and collaborators organized and implemented neuropsychological protocols in clinical trials of hypothermia, errorless learning, CDP choline, and progesterone. To monitor the quality of outcome data across sites, he developed a code for the reliability of data collected and implemented an outcome monitor who evaluated adherence to protocol across sites.
Join us at the ACRM 2018 Annual Conference in Dallas, 10 October, for the Henry B. Betts Awards Dinner and Gala, where Dr. Levin will receive his award. Tickets are available through Conference Registration or by contacting MemberServices@ACRM.org.
