The ACRM Fellows Committee and Board of Governors are pleased to recognize Dr. Brooks Wingo for her outstanding record of professional service to ACRM and for the nationally significant contributions she has made to the field of medical rehabilitation by conferring on her the designation of ACRM Fellow.

ABOUT BROOKS WINGO

Dr. Wingo is a tenured Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with expertise in dietary behavior and the development of behavioral dietary interventions for people with physical disabilities and complex medical conditions. Her current research focuses on understanding the role of dietary patterns on symptom burden and disease progression in adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) and multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as adapting evidence-based dietary interventions for adults with these conditions. After completing her doctoral training, she completed postdoctoral fellowships in comparative effectiveness research and behavioral interventions for obesity. These fellowships focused on the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical trials for dietary interventions. She has experience conducting clinical trials of behavioral interventions with minority populations, older adults, patients with multiple medical conditions, and adults and children with physical disabilities. She has received funding through Paralyzed Veterans of America, National MS Society, NIH and DOD. She has been an active member of ACRM since joining in 2013. She is a member of the Neurodegenerative Networking Group and the Career Development Networking Group, and has served on the ACRM Training Institute steering committee and the ACRM Board of Governors. She completed the ACRM Leadership Mentoring Program in 2022 and now serves as a mentor for the ACRM Research Mentoring Program.
