Fellow of ACRM

 

The ACRM Fellows Committee and Board of Governors are pleased to recognize Dr. Brian Downer for his outstanding record of professional service to ACRM and for the nationally significant contributions he has made to the field of medical rehabilitation by conferring on her the designation of ACRM Fellow.

ABOUT BRIAN DOWNER​

Brian Downer, PhD is an Associate Professor in the School of Public and Population Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and holder of the Lloyd and Sue Ann Hill Professorship in Healthy Aging. He received his PhD in gerontology from the University of Kentucky School of Public Health and completed an NIH T32 postdoctoral fellowship at the UTMB Sealy Center on Aging. He conducts policy-relevant research on the healthcare utilization of older adults, focusing on older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Dr. Downer has been an active member of ACRM since 2016. He contributes to several committees and networking groups, notably the Neurodegenerative Disease Networking Group (NDNG) and the Career Development Networking Group (CDNG). As NDNG membership officer and chair-elect, he works closely with the ACRM Membership Committee to increase NDNG membership and promote ACRM. As NDNG liaison to the CDNG, he worked with Drs. Julie Faieta and Tolu Oyesanya in establishing the ACRM CDNG Researcher Mentoring Program. Dr. Downer has been the CDNG Early Career Development Course task force chair since 2021. He has worked closely with Dr. Deborah Backus and other task force members in leading the annual Early Career and Leadership Development instructional courses.
