Established in 1988, the Distinguished Member Award honors an ACRM member who significantly contributes to the development and functioning of ACRM. Qualified nominees are ACRM members who provide extraordinary service as a member or chair of a committee, task force, ISIG, or networking group. These individuals demonstrate leadership and organizational abilities and exemplify public service.

ACRM is pleased to recognize John T. Morris, PhD, FACRM as the 2023 ACRM Distinguished Member.

 

ABOUT JOHN MORRIS

John Morris is a clinical research scientist and director of the User Experience Research Lab at Shepherd Center. His work focuses on research and development of assistive and rehabilitation technologies, accessibility and usability of technology products and services. He is dedicated to promoting and ensuring equitable access and usability of assistive technology products and services for people with all types of disabilities to support independent living and community participation. John has led several R&D projects for mobile software applications and clinical interventions based on mainstream consumer technology platforms. As Director of the User Experience Research Lab at Shepherd Center, John leads a multidisciplinary team that provides accessibility and usability research and testing services to consumer electronics and other consumer products companies. Prior to joining Shepherd Center, John worked for Oracle Corporation as a senior product development manager, designing and validating products and services, and as assistant professor at the University of Connecticut. John has served in multiple leadership roles for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), including as Communications Committee Chair and founding co-chair of the Technology Networking Group. John currently serves as co-chair of the Clinicians and Industry Collaborative Task Force within the Technology Networking Group.
