BI-ISIG Moving Ahead

 2025 Spring Edition

Letter from the Editor

Dear ACRM BI-ISIG Members,

It is an honor to introduce my first Moving Ahead Newsletter as Communications Chair. Being part of the ACRM BI-ISIG has been an incredible experience, allowing me to connect with dedicated professionals across the globe who are advancing brain injury research, advocacy, and clinical care. The strength of this group lies in its collaborative spirit and commitment to improving the lives of individuals with brain injury. As Dr. Juengst’s letter highlights, these qualities will be crucially important as we rise to the challenges of this moment in our history.

The BI-ISIG has a remarkable history of accomplishments. Our work in Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) has resulted in the development of essential resources to support families navigating the challenges of severe brain injury, providing them with accurate, expert-vetted information. The mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) task force established the widely recognized case definition of mTBI, a critical step toward improving research and clinical care by ensuring consistency in classification. Additionally, our group continues to lead the field in cognitive rehabilitation through the ACRM Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual & Textbook, Second Edition, a comprehensive resource that advances evidence-based practice.

As Communications Chair, I look forward to keeping our members informed about the exciting initiatives we continue to develop as a BI-ISIG. More importantly, I hope to highlight the people behind the work—our members—who lead multifaceted lives both inside and outside of their professional roles. This issue introduces our Member Spotlight feature, a space to celebrate the individuals who make this community so vibrant.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the field of brain injury. I look forward to engaging with you all in the months ahead!

Sincerely,
Amanda Rabinowitz, PhD
