ANNUAL CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS FOR BI-ISIG

We are pleased to announce three exciting symposia sponsored by the BI-ISIG during our annual conference.

Sheldon Berrol Memorial Chautauqua- “Identity in Flux: Understanding Disability After Traumatic Brain Injury”- Dr. Eric Watson, Jared Venters, Melissa Earley. The symposium offers a multifaceted examination of disability identity in the context of traumatic brain injury (TBI), blending academic inquiry with firsthand perspectives from individuals living with TBI. Attendees will delve into the complexities of disability identity development, exploring how TBI can shape perceptions of self and identity.

Mark Ylvisaker Symposium- “Seeds of Hope: Nurturing Recovery After Pediatric TBI”- Kelly Lang, co-author of The Miracle Child:  Traumatic Brain Injury and Me” is a brain injury survivor and caregiver to her daughter who sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2001. She brings 20+ years of experience navigating the medical, educational, therapeutic, and social system areas. BI-ISIG Special Symposium- “What Did Mr. Rogers Know About Brain Injury? The Effects of Neighborhood on TBI Outcomes”- Shannon Juengst, Amanda Rabinowitz, Raj Kumar, John Corrigan. This symposium will focus on the role of social determinants of health, at the neighborhood level, and their impacts on outcomes following TBI.
