How to Prevent Older Adults From Falling? Effectiveness of Clinical Approaches

The presentation will highlight the impact of aging and persons with neurodegeneration on balance and mobility. Evidence based clinical approaches to prevent falls as well as the risk descriptions of falls in older adults as well as people with age-related neurodegenerative conditions.

ABOUT MELIKE KAHYA

Melike Kahya, PT, PhD is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, Harvard Medical School. She recently completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Science program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She received her bachelor’s degree from Istanbul University in Physical Therapy and her master’s from the University of Pittsburgh in Neuromuscular Physical Therapy. Her research interest is understanding neurophysiology of mobility and falls in aging and age-related neurodegenerative conditions. She is an active member of American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) and serving as Communications Officer at the ACRM Neurodegenerative Disease Networking Group.
