BIO

Rachelle Palnick Tsachor (BFA Juilliard, MA CCNY) is Assistant Professor of Movement at the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Theatre & Music. She a teacher of the Alexander Technique (ATI) and a Certified Movement Analysist (CMA). Her research and artistic work explore connections between body and mind, function and expression, using Laban Movement Studies and Alexander Technique as research tools to investigate creative, scientific and therapeutic challenges, identifying patterns of connection through the moving body. Tsachor is co-author of “Emotion Regulation Through Movement” (Frontiers in Psychology); “How shall I count the ways? A method for quantifying the qualitative aspects of unscripted movement with LMA” (under review); and “A Somatic Movement Approach to Fostering Emotional Resiliency” (Frontiers in Neuroscience). This research received over 1/4 million views on TedX as How your body affects your happiness. She has analyzed movement for machine learning studies into affective computing, and her research applies to fields ranging from robotics and intelligent interaction to rehabilitative medicine. She presented at Movementis: International Conference on Movement, Brain and Cognition in Oxford and Harvard, and Moving from Within: International Congress on Movement Analysis in Education, Therapy and Science in Munich. Tsachor is a contributor on movement to the forthcoming book: Integrative Rehabilitation: The Foundations of Biopsychosocial Practice for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Other Health Professionals’ (Matt Erb and Arlene Schmid, Eds.)
