BIO

Tolu Oyesanya, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Nursing since August 2018. Dr. Oyesanya is also a senior fellow with Duke Center for Aging, a faculty affiliate in the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, and Chair of the Mentoring Task Force with the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Oyesanya is trained as a PhD-prepared registered nurse with research interests that center on improving the health and wellbeing of adult patients with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their family members for optimal recovery, particularly during the transition from acute hospital care to home. While serving as PI, collaborator, or trainee on multiple federally- and internally-funded projects, Dr. Oyesanya has conducted and published multiple research studies related to improving health, wellbeing, and care of patients with TBI and their families. These studies have ranged from quantitative studies using statistical methods such as multivariate logistic regression to determine predictors of discharge rehabilitation outcomes for patients with TBI to qualitative studies using methodologies such as grounded theory to explore the experience of the hospital stay for family caregivers of patients with TBI. Dr. Oyesanya also has over 10 years of experience in qualitative research methodologies, including use a range of qualitative methods with individual interviews and focus groups.
