Dr. Stephanie Kolakowsky-Hayner is an Associate Professor of Research in the Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York, NY. She serves as the Director of Spinal Cord Injury Research, a Senior Investigator in the Brain Injury Research Center, and the Director of Rehabilitation Research Education. She is Co-Investigator on the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research funded New York Traumatic Brain Injury Model System at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Spinal Cord Injury Model System, Co-Investigator on the NJ Commission on SCI Research funded Informing Identification of Neuropathic Pain Phenotypes in People with SCI, Co-Director for the Paralyzed Veterans of America Education Foundation funded Development of a Consumer Guide for the Prevention of VTE in Individuals with SCI, and Site-PI for the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation funded Enhancing Healthcare for Women with Spinal Cord Injury through a Web-based Information Resource. Dr. Kolakowsky-Hayner is the Recruitment and Neuropsychological Outcome Consultant for the multicenter NIH funded Central Thalamic Stimulation for Traumatic Brain Injury study. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists’ Board of Governors, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Board of Governors, the Pink Concussions Professional Advisory Board, and Independence Care Systems Spinal Cord Injury Advisory Committee. Dr. Kolakowsky-Hayner is the Chief Methodologist and Vocational-Community Issues Panel Chair for the Brain Injury Association of America and Mount Sinai’s Guidelines for Rehabilitation and Chronic Disease Management of Adults with Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury development project. She also serves on the Community Advisory Board of the DOD-funded Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium and as the Co-Chair of the 4th Federal Interagency Conference on Traumatic Brain Injury. Dr. Kolakowsky-Hayner has over 20 years progressively independent experience in research related to brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other neurologic disorders. To date, she has made over 200 professional presentations and published over 220 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and other information materials for professionals and consumers with disabilities.
