Elissa Charbonneau is a board certified physiatrist with over 25 years of experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Her clinical experience includes directing the brain injury, orthopedic and multitrauma and spinal cord injury programs at New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Portland, ME. In 2015, Dr. Charbonneau developed a new department at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth, focusing on physician education. In July of 2015, she assumed the leadership role of Chief Medical Officer of the company, where she oversees the Quality and Clinical Excellence and Medical Services departments and a staff of over 15 rehabilitation professionals who provide national leadership to the company. Dr. Charbonneau resides in Freeport, Maine and divides her time between Maine and Birmingham, AL, where the corporate headquarters of Encompass Health is located.
