Dr. Melton is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She specializes in the care of orthopedic trauma with an emphasis on nonsurgical management of patients with limb salvage and amputation encompassing pre-prosthetic or bracing management, prosthetic design and prescription, rehabilitation and pain management.

Dr. Melton is an affiliated physician at Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute-Texas Medical Center and The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research—TIRR Memorial Hermann, internationally recognized as one of the leading rehabilitation programs, where she evaluates and treats patients in an acute setting and provides continuity of care.

Dr. Melton is a co-investigator for several research projects funded by the National Institute of Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Defense involving novel treatments and genetic testing for phantom limb pain, the rehabilitation of limb salvage and amputations, and healthy living programs designed for improving overall health of the amputee community.

Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Melton received her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Louisiana State University, and she completed both her medical school and residency at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

Dr. Melton serves as Scientific Chair on the External Collaborative Panel for the NIH Limb Loss Preservation Registry. She is an advisory board member for BCM Orthotics and Prosthetics Program, and on Amputee Coalition’s Limb Loss Task Force working with industry leaders on patient advocacy and establishing a limb loss model system. Dr. Melton is the amputee director for Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Project providing disadvantaged limb-loss patients much needed equipment, prosthetics and therapy.

Dr. Melton has led several educational workshops on limb loss and rehabilitation, received recognition by her peers, and has been listed in Super Doctors’ Texas Rising Stars, Texas Super Doctors, Houston’s Top Docs and Best Doctors.
