#45 How to Maintain and Lead Clinical Research as a Physician, Clinician, or Clinician Researcher?  RES, CC

PRESENTERS:  Brad Kurowski, Douglas Katz, Flora Hammond, Mike Jones

For the physician, clinician investigator or staff new to research, interested in improving their skills and understanding of the principles and practices used in the successful execution of patient-oriented research. Participants will gain insights to enhance their ability to participate in and perform qualify research according to existing regulations and guidelines. The course is open to physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals involved in or interested in clinical research. The program will share information and create an opportunity for dialogue amongst attendees and program faculty. The focus of the course will be how to balance clinical and research responsibilities.

2015 Early Career Development Course Participants

The Pre-Conference Early Career Development Course is a perennial conference favorite developed by the ACRM Early Career Networking Group. It provides an ideal venue for connecting with seasoned professionals who can answer your questions and guide you on your path to success. With particular focus on career development issues relevant to early career researchers, this program comprises didactic presentation, panel discussion, one-on-one networking, and small group discussions.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Early career researchers, clinician scientists, and clinicians interested in starting a research agenda will find the course especially beneficial. Attendees range from graduate students nearing the completion of their degree, to postdoctoral scholars and junior faculty. The course program changes annually, enabling attendees to enjoy a unique and informative experience year after year.

 

TEAM SCIENCE

The 2016 course program will be focused on helping our attendees develop their research identity while forming collaborative relationships and teams, enhancing team communication, preventing conflicts, giving and sharing credit in publications and grants, balancing individual and team pursuits for tenure and promotion and increasing productivity.

The morning program will begin with a keynote continental breakfast with Michael Boninger, MD and Edelle Field-Fote, PhD, PT presenting, Perils, Pitfalls and Possibilities: What to Look Out for in Your Early Career.

The day continues with a jam-packed agenda of networking opportunities, informative presentations and group discussion, including:

  • Panel discussion on tenure and promotion
  • Mentoring Lunch (boxed lunch included)
  • Funding presentations by representatives of NIDILRR, Veterans Affairs, NIH, PCRORI and selected foundations
  • Breakout Sessions led by mid-career and senior rehabilitation scientists

The course concludes with an ACRM Leadership Welcome, providing attendees an opportunity to engage with ACRM board members and chairs of the many ACRM interdisciplinary special interest and networking groups, and explore ways to participate.

Then adjourn to the EXPO hall for more networking, exhibits, and a casual cocktail reception.
